Intex Excursion 5 Review

If you’re looking for a large inflatable boat to head out on the water with then look no further than the Intex Excursion 5. It’s huge and can accommodate up to 5 people as well as a huge weight capacity and even has fishing rod holders!

In this article, we’re going to look at all the amazing features and pro of this inflatable boat in our Intex Excursion 5 review.

Overview of the

The Intex Excursion 5 brings everything that we loved about the Excursion 4, but with additional room. As the number suggests, not only is it a newer product than its predecessor but it also accommodates one extra person. At capacity, this boat can carry a weight of 1100lbs.

They have maintained the same seats that were in the previous version. The key difference is that they more room in the central part of the boat. We will look at this boat in greater detail below.

Construction and build

A rugged vinyl construction has been used on this boat. This is the same material that we have come to trust based on our experience with it on the Excursion 4. It is a strong material that does not puncture easily. Although it does not feel like much when you feel it, it is certainly built to last.

In the event that things go wrong, Intex has included a repair kit with this boat, as they did with the previous version. Granted, this may not be for everyone. There is some peace of mind attached to knowing that you have this as well if you were to need it.

The all-around grab line is one that we have come to appreciate. It makes it easier to move the boat about. You can also use it as something to grab onto in case of an emergency. You will be pleased to know that Intex took it a step further this time by the inclusion of a grab handle on board. There are two of these on this boat. These make it incredibly easier to move the boat when it is inflated.

Fishing features

Well, this is a versatile boat the presence of 4 fishing rod holders gives a clear indication of what the manufacturers had in mind when making this boat. Whilst the capacity of the boat is 5, having 4 fishing rod holders allows for one person to always have their eye out and ensure the safety of the occupants. The fishing rod holders make it easier to set the rods and free your hands for a while. This will come handy if you were to decide to have a drink, or a picnic when out on the water.

The Intex excursion 5 weighs 57.4lbs. It has the following packaging dimensions: 20.51in x 14.02in x 24.04in. The weight of the boat means that it may require more than one person to move it. The saving grace is that it is remarkably smaller when deflated than it is when it is fully blown out.

Inflated size of 10ft 4in X 5ft 5in X 1ft 5in would make it more difficult to move around and to store away. That is something that you will not have to worry about. You can deflate this boat when done using it, and store it away without taking up much room.

There is a pair of oars included with the boat. They are 54 inches long and made of aluminum. The length makes them just the right size for the boat’s oar fixtures. You can comfortably sit back and paddle. Due to the material that has been used to make them, they are incredibly lightweight. While we love this about them, it may not be ideal for everyone. Heftier oars tend to mean more rowing power.

Having more room on the boat means that there is extra space to store items on board. However, when you are at capacity it may not be as easy as it sounds. The one addition that we love about this boat when it comes to storage is that of the gear pouch. It is quite a small one but it provides you with a dedicated place to store some things.

As with the previous version, this one comes with two seats that are inflatable. the seats have clips on the rear end which can be clipped onto the back of the boat. Once clipped in, the seats are more immobile. This means that they do not move around easily or slide as you move.

There is an additional padded seat in the middle of the boat that was not present in the previous version. This is where the fifth person would sit. the clear downside is that there isn’t a backrest on this fifth seat. It is difficult to say how one could have been implemented.

Motor Mount Fittings

There is a motor mount fitting on the rear end of the boat. This makes it incredibly easy to get a motor on the back of the boat to minimize the amount of paddling that you would need to do when out of the water. In this case, the mount is designed for 1.5 hp motor. This is less than was possible with the excursion 4. The motor can only be up to 8.2kg or 18lbs heavy.

Air Chambers

For buoyancy in the event of a puncture when out on the water, you can always depend on 3 chambers that the boat has. The most important one, in this case, is the auxiliary chamber. It is designed to be the last line of defense to keep you afloat.

About the brand

Intex has been at the forefront of the inflatable product market for close to 5 decades now. In this time their name has become synonymous with good quality. This is why they are a great brand to go with when it comes to purchasing a boat. The products are known to improve over time as they take feedback on board and implement changes.

  • 3 air chambers including an auxiliary air chamber in hull for extra buoyancy
  • Boston valve on two main hull chambers for quick-fill & fast-deflate. All around grab line
  • Inflatable I Beam floor for comfort and rigidity. Has 2 welded oar locks on each side

The Intel excursion 5 provides you with additional room on your boat as well as is a bit more storage room. This is something that all users will appreciate. While we are pleased about the overall quality of the boat, some users have noted the inconsistent quality of the oars. This is something that could easily be improved with a little more quality control. At a price that this boat comes at, it is difficult to say what more we could possibly ask of it.
