One of the main selling points for the Sea Eagle 420x is the versatility that it brings to your boating experience. It allows you to reach area and water bodies that you could not dream of reaching in boats that have a fixed structure. This is a characteristic that this boat shares with other inflatables. What tends to set it apart is its ability to perform at an exceptional standard in both wet and dry weather conditions.

When out on a wet day, you do not have the concern of water collecting inside the boat. It is designed to facilitate the draining of excess water. This is courtesy of 16 super-fast self-bailing drain valves

There is no risk of running aground or indeed getting the boat scratched or permanently damaged by hitting a surface that is too shallow. When going on shallow water, be sure to remove the skeg. If you want to get a more rigid structure to the boat, there is a separate drop stitch floor designed for this purpose.

If the first one that you encounter is not what you are looking for, you can take heart in knowing that there are 4 versions that you can choose from. These are divided based on the activities for which they are made.

Construction and build

The Sea Eagle 420x is a 3 person boat. For a boat of its size and design, it is amazing that you can fully inflate it in 9 minutes. There are handles on the front, back and on either side of the boat to make it easier to move it. We will consider other features and what they bring to the party.

Weight

This boat comes at an incredibly low weight of 20kg. It has dimensions of 427cm x 100cm on the exterior. The interior has dimensions of 406cm x 38cm. When deflated it can be folded down for packing at the following dimensions, 79cm x 53cm x 25cm. It is these dimensions and a weight of 20kg that make it an easy boat to transport and to store away when it is not in use.

There is a weight capacity allowance of just over 850 lbs. This is plenty for 3 adults and some cargo. Having said that, to get the most comfort and cargo out of it you want to stick with a maximum of two people. This will largely be determined by how much cargo you have on board.

There is also the option to attach a motor onto the rear end of the boat. In this case, the advised weight restriction is 15lbs. This is largely due to the placement of the motor.

Durability

The material used to make any boat is always a good measure of how durable it will be. This boat is made of 1100 decitex that is reinforced. It has a strong layer of PVC on either side of the Decitex to provide additional cover from the elements. This PVC is capable of taking on the harsh sun and blistering rain.

To ensure the integrity of the material, the seams are glued and quadruple overlapped. This means that each of the layers is supporting 3 others while receiving the same support.

Seating

The seats on this boat are perfectly placed in a central position. They are then held in place by lines that run from either side of the boat around the seat. All in all, there are 26 D-rings to secure seats and gear. The base of the seats is contoured. This makes it more comfortable and reduces the chances of slipping.

User’s Guide

The 420x is designed to give the user a spacious option for taking on various bodies of water. It not only provides this versatility but is also tough enough to take on class four whitewater. Although the shape may not show this, it is a boat that offers tremendous stability. Some users who have used this boat on overnight trips have spent a night in it. This, of course, is only practical on calm water and as the sole occupant of the boat.

Multiple Air Chambers

The sea eagle 420x has three separate air chambers, the port, starboard, and floor. These are fed through a one-way air valve. One of the advantages of having such a valve is that in the event of a malfunction of the valve, it will take a while for all of the air to drain out of the three chambers.

Along with the advantage that we have just mentioned, having different chambers is a good safety mechanism in the event of a puncture. It allows you the time to get back to shore before it completely deflates.
